Pre-K Eye Exam Day: A SUCCESS!

The Minnesota Optometric Association (MOA) has named a day in August as Pre-K Eye Exam Day, a statewide effort that is part of its Good Sight for Kindergarten campaign.

Dr. Freese of Eyes On Main in Sauk Centre participated in the Pre-K Exam Day on Tuesday, August 14th and it was a total success! We were pleased to have our office full of new little kindergartners and look forward to doing it again!

Why are eye exams important for children entering school?

A vision screening is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam, because vision screenings generally test for distance and near acuity (clearness) only.  Screenings generally do not test for such things as binocular vision, eye coordination and focusing abilities. A child who receives a 20/20 vision test result does not necessarily mean he or she can see to read.  In fact, a recent MOA sponsored Minnesota bill was signed into law requiring schools to notify parents that vision screenings are not a substitute for eye exams.  Eyes On Main’s goal is to help educate families about children’s eye health.

School Readiness Summit: Focus on Vision.

In response to President Obama's call to ensure that no child is left behind in the classroom due to an undetected or untreated eye or vision disorder, the AOA (with generous support from HOYA) gathered together nearly 50 leading doctors, nurses, educators and other child health advocates for the first-ever School Readiness Summit: Focus on Vision. The two-day intensive session examined alarmingly high-rates of learning-related vision issues now plaguing America's children and ultimately produce a first-of-its-kind plan of action aimed at addressing these serious concerns. Electronic Medical Records

We’re excited to announce we have implemented an Electronic Medical Records system (EMR). This advanced computer technology will help us improve patient care and compliance. When EMR is implemented, we wanted you to know that your next clinic visit may take a little longer as we learn the new EMR system. However, we are confident that the improvements in medical quality and safety will be worth the temporary inconvenience. Thank you in advance for your continued support and patience during this transition.
