Insurance & Billing Specialist Pay Type: Hourly
The key functional responsibility of the Insurance & Billing Specialist is to ensure accurate and timely billing of all patient accounts and insurance. Maintaining positive cash flow through effective account management, collections, and accounts receivable is critical to the practice’s success.

A deep understanding and of all participating insurance plans and third party payors is required. The Insurance & Billing Specialist is expected to communicate with all patients regarding their plans and benefits. This includes all patient questions before, during and after their visit to the practice. The Insurance & Billing Specialist will therefore keep up-to-date with all plan changes, regulations and requirements. This is to include compliance with HIPPA and ICD-10 requirements.

As our practice believes in providing the best possible care to our patients, maximizing a patient’s insurance coverage relative to all appropriate testing and benefits is of highest importance. For patients that have limited or no insurance coverage the Insurance & Billing Specialist is authorized to develop payment arrangements keeping in accordance with the practice’s payment and billing policies and procedures.
 
Job Responsibilities:

•   Billing all patient accounts including all participating insurance plans and third party payors
•  Communicating with all patients on their coverage, plan and benefits where applicable
•  Handing all patient insurance and billing questions
•  Post all insurance and patient payments
•  Maintain all accounts receivable and records
•  Audits of delinquent accounts and collections
•  Managing patient payment arrangements and collections
•  Demonstrates an appropriate level of knowledge using the practice’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR ) system
•  Reporting to management/leadership the status of all accounts receivable
•  Reporting practice-wide to the appropriate team members any significant changes to insurance plans that directly affect patient care

Detail Orientation
Must have the ability to adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the participating insurance plans. Must be able to spot and correct accounting and billing errors.

Communication Skills
The Insurance & Billing Specialist must have the ability to effectively communicate complex plan information relative to patient care to all patients. Must also have the ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with all insurance providers.

Customer Orientation
The Insurance & Billing Specialist will interact frequently with our patients and potential patients relative to their insurance and billing. As these interactions can often be stressful for the patient, approaching these exchanges in a caring and helpful way is vital.

Consistency of Work
The Insurance and Billing Specialist position requires consistent repetition of several insurance and billing tasks. A displayed comfort level and accuracy of accomplishing tasks of this nature is required.

Pace of the Environment
Generally, the pace of this position will be consistent with the exception of handling patient queries in-person, via telephone and by electronic means. Ability to manage work flow appropriately is required.
